I started my career 14 years ago as a concept artist creating Characters and worlds for a video game company called Codemasters. Since then I have helped create four AAA game titles and became the ART DIRECTOR at Freestylegames/Activision, and have helped set up a new company called SlingshotCartel.
Before becoming the Art director I was a senior character artist with over 5 years experience creating high quality Characters and 3D assets for AAA games. I also built and Lead a concept team for three years creating designs and pitches for Activision games such as Skylanders and Call of Duty among others.
On the latest title Guitar Hero live, I helped to direct multiple companies in different disciplines from VFX companies such as Framestore to on set film crews plus the in-game 3D, U.I. and Motion graphic art teams within Freestylegames itself.
I would describe myself as a very imaginative individual who can work easily with many different types of teams and people.
I love working with teams to problem solve via artwork as it gives me and others the opportunity to gain and pass on new knowledge. I constantly write stories and game ideas from which i draw inspiration to keep drawing and painting from.
I am very keen to explore new tech to tell stories in new ways, the VR/ augmented scene excites me inspires me to do this.
I, like many other in our industry now have risked an opportunity in creating a start up company, called SlingshotCartel. Using the skills that we learnt from Guitar hero live We created two games. One for the PC market called DRG and the other for the up and coming mobile messenger game market called Paper golf.
I have learnt so much about the business side of the games industry through this process but have come full circle back to where i loved working the most which is the creative process of creating and developing concept art.
I sketch daily, read as much sci-fi and non-fiction as i can.And I'm on a one man crusade to plant a forest on every mountain top, ride my motorbike on every road, hear every legend story and surf every surfbreak in Ireland. Besides that, I have two kids who keep me on my toes and who spend my money on every mobile game going.
